Grand Canyon, AZ

The southern rim gives you easy access to the Phantom Ranch, and the  Bright Angel Campground. The hike to the bottom can be about 8 hours (10 miles) and you should double the time it takes to go down to get out, unless you're a stairmaster, in which case you can get out in about 5 hours. Watch out for tourists along the trail and always yield to those climbing up.

  • Pay for a pre-cooked meal at phantom ranch

  • Your butt will be sore from riding a donkey down and out

  • Know where there are water stops along trails, bring enough water and food with even if you are in the best of shape.
